Vara Raises $4.8M for Staff Management

Vara, a Jakarta, Indonesia and Singapore-based staff management platform platform provider, raised $4.8M in seed funding. Backers included Go Ventures, RTP Global, AlphaJWC, Sequoia Capital India’s Surge, FEBE Ventures, and Taurus Ventures.

Co-Founder Mahansaria said that the biggest challenge for Vara right now is to build an app that’s simple to use but also sophisticated enough to cater various industries and geography. “Human resources is a sector that has a highly customized workflow. There are various kinds of overtime and salary components across companies,” he explains.

Vara provides a lightweight staff management platform that enables small companies to manage their attendance and payroll. Its debut product, Bukugaji, is geared towards the Indonesian market and has served more than 100,000 businesses since launch six months ago. As a mobile-first product, Bukugaji enables business owners to track staff attendance, tabulate salary and loans, generate payslips, and disburse payroll within just a few minutes.

The company intends to use the funds to accelerate growth, expand operations and its business reach.
